Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) will host the BIG Quantum Hackathon Qatar 2025 from 15- 18 November at Minaretein, Education City. The event is organised with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and supported by knowledge partners QuantX and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
MCIT previously announced that Qatar will stage its first international quantum computing hackathon, to be hosted by HBKU with QuantX and BCG, aligning with national efforts to accelerate emerging technologies.
Format and focus:
- Technical phase (15-16 November, Minaretein): Mixed teams of students and engineers tackle real-world challenges in chemistry, machine learning, optimisation, finance, and numerical simulation using leading quantum hardware and software platforms.
- Business phase (17-18 November, Minaretein): Investor and consulting teams stress-test market fit and integration pathways with industry use-case owners, mirroring R&D decision cycles.
- The technical phase requires in-person attendance in Doha; business-phase attendance is optional. An awards ceremony will recognise the most impactful solutions.
The hackathon aims to prototype high-impact civilian use cases across health and preventive care, sustainable mobility and logistics, inclusive financial services and cybersecurity, resilient energy and utilities with sustainability, and digital public services, drawing on HBKU’s growing quantum ecosystem (QC2).
