Doha: A Strategic Partnership for Workforce Development
In a significant step towards enhancing employment opportunities for Qatari nationals, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) has signed a Cooperation Document with Al Rayyan International University College (ARIU). The agreement aims to develop a specialised training programme tailored for secondary school graduates and university students seeking to enter the private sector.
This collaboration aligns with Qatar’s broader strategy of national workforce development, equipping job-seekers with the necessary skills and expertise to meet market demands.
Addressing Private Sector Employment Gaps
The initiative is designed to strengthen the professional competencies of young Qatari job-seekers, including the children of Qatari women. The training programme will focus on practical skill-building to ensure that participants are prepared for the evolving demands of private sector roles.
The Cooperation Document was signed by Shaikha Abdulrahman Al Badi, Undersecretary for National Manpower Affairs in the Private Sector, and Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of Al Faisal Holding Group.
“This collaboration highlights our commitment to fostering strong partnerships between educational institutions and private sector entities,” Al Badi stated. “We aim to develop a highly skilled national workforce that supports Qatar’s economic vision.”
A Unique Programme in Key Economic Sectors
The programme, the first of its kind in Qatar, will provide targeted training in tourism, hospitality, and event management. Designed according to international standards, it will blend academic learning with hands-on experience, ensuring participants are job-ready upon completion.
An initial cohort of 40 secondary school graduates will be selected for the programme, with opportunities for additional university students to join. Participants will receive tailored training, including real-world workplace exposure, professional development, and career mentorship.
According to Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, “Investing in the development of young Qataris is a key priority. This initiative supports Qatar National Vision 2030 by equipping the workforce with advanced skills and fostering sustainable employment.”
Supporting Qatar’s Workforce Strategy
The initiative aligns with Qatar’s Private Sector Job Nationalisation Law and the National Workforce Strategy (2024-2030), which seeks to enhance local employment and reduce dependency on foreign labour. By creating structured training pathways, the MoL and ARIU partnership aims to boost job-seekers’ competitiveness and ensure that the private sector benefits from a high-productivity workforce.
As the programme rolls out, it is expected to significantly contribute to Qatar’s economic growth by bridging the skills gap and preparing young professionals for long-term careers in key industries.
