Ankara and Doha aim to strengthen trade relations and attract mutual investment at the Turkish Embassy event in Qatar.
DOHA – High-level officials and business leaders from Qatar and Turkey gathered this week in Doha for an investment forum focused on expanding economic ties between the two countries. Hosted by the Turkish Embassy, the event was held under the banner “Türkiye: Your Resilient Investment Partner” and marked 100 years since the founding of the modern Turkish Republic.
In a presentation to forum attendees, Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek outlined Ankara’s new economic vision and highlighted the nation’s development in recent years. The goal, he said, is to showcase Türkiye as an attractive destination for Qatari capital.
“Turkey is a high quality and valuable investment platform for Qatari companies across sectors,” noted Qatari Businessmen Association President Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani in his remarks. He thanked existing Turkish investors for spurring tourism growth and industrial development in Qatar while calling for additional joint commercial endeavors.
The deep strategic ties binding Doha and Ankara, along with their prospects for increased cooperation, were emphasized by the Turkish Ambassador to Qatar Dr. Mustafa Göksu. He also praised the strong personal relationship between the two countries’ leaders.
According to Burak Dağlıoğlu, who heads Türkiye’s Investment Office, the nation has attracted over $250 billion in foreign direct investment since 2003. Seven percent of that figure came from Gulf countries, he said, expressing a desire to further boost capital inflows from the region.
“We are working to both attract foreign investors to Türkiye and promote the many opportunities here so that Türkiye becomes an ideal investment location,” explained Dağlıoğlu.
With sound fundamentals and pro-business reforms, Türkiye offers an array of lucrative openings in sectors like healthcare, infrastructure, energy, and tourism. The investment forum provided a platform for Qatar and Turkey to explore synergies and align on mutual interests as they seek to expand economic ties.
